The project seeks to create the feeling that brings the individual into the site without having the opportunity to visit in person.

"Whether you're a multi-generation member of the church, or you were baptized just last week," associate professor Lloyd D. Newell says, "these are the sites that have helped make the church's legacy and made us the members who we are today."

All members share the heritage of their Mormon forebears thanks to the ties of the church.

"We've had doors opened to us," Ostler notes.

They have gained entrance to places that are seldom seen and received special permissions to show their audience rare images.

"We felt we're doing something the Lord wants us to pursue," Ostler says.
